Watch Weezer cover ‘All The Small Things’ in tribute to absent Blink-182 at Riot Fest
Blink were forced to pull out of the festival
Weezer performed a cover of Blink-182’s ‘All The Small Things’ at Riot Fest in Chicago on Friday night (14th September).
Blink were due to headline the opening night of the three-night festival in Douglas Park but were forced to pull out earlier this month due to drummer Travis Barker’s ongoing health problems.
Weezer, Run the Jewels, and Taking Back Sunday all stepped in to play Riot Fest in Blink’s absence and Weezer paid special tribute to the pop-punk trio during their bill-topping slot.
Discovering that Young The Giant had also covered ‘All The Small Things’ ealier in the day, Weezer singer Rivers Cuomo told the audience: “We’re gonna do it anyway, because you can never have too much Blink in your life. Let’s see what it sounds like Weezer-style.”
Watch the performance right here:
Cancelling their North American mini-tour on 6th September, Blink-182 wrote: “It is with a heavy heart to report that blink must cancel its fall mini-tour which was set to kick off September 8th on their way to headline Riot Fest in Chicago.
“Medical issues have sidelined Travis per doctors’ orders. Trav’s medical team anticipated that he would be well enough by fall to tour but after recent checkups, they were not able to clear him in time for the scheduled run of dates.”
Travis himself commented: “The past few months have just sucked as I have been sidelined just waiting for my doctors to clear me so I could get back on the road and perform with my band. Unfortunately, the risks associated with drumming are still too great.
“I am doing everything I need to do so I can get back on the road as soon as possible. I want to thank my fans, family, friends, and bandmates for all the love and support.”
Back in June, Blink-182 postponed many of their Las Vegas residency dates “due to the blood clots in both of Travis Barker’s arms."
