Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, has been shot by police in Los Angeles and booked for attempted murder following an unrelated hit-and-run incident.

51-year-old author Jillian Shriner, who goes by the pen name of Jillian Lauren, suffered a “non-life-threatening gunshot wound” outside a residential property in the north-east Los Angeles neighbourhood of Eagle Rock on Tuesday 8th April.

LAPD said in a statement: "On April 8, 2025, around 3:25 pm, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) requested a backup locating three misdemeanour hit-and-run suspects who fled into a residential neighbourhood near the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street. Multiple Northeast Division uniformed officers responded and established a perimeter.

"Several minutes later, officers were directed by CHP to the rear of a residence in the 5300 block of Waldo Place, where one suspect was last seen running. As the officers were in the rear yard of that residence, they observed a female, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Shriner, in the yard of a neighbouring residence armed with a handgun.

"The officers ordered Shriner to drop the handgun numerous times; however, she refused. Shriner then pointed the handgun at the officers, and an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred."

After getting shot in her shoulder, Shriner fled into her home and emerged 30 minutes later with her hands raised, surrendering to police.

She was charged with attempted murder, however it was found that she had no involvement in the original hit-and-run incident.

Weezer are scheduled to play Coachella festival in California this Saturday (12th April).
