Footage of Stone Temple Pilots’ inaugural live show with new singer Jeff Gutt has premiered online.

Former X Factor USA runner-up Gutt - pronounced Goot - was unveiled as the third Stone Temple Pilots singer last Tuesday (14th November) and they marked the occasion by performing an intimate show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.

American radio station SiriusXM, who hosted the invite-only gig, have now shared professionally shot footage of two songs performed on the night – ‘Still Remains’ from 1994’s ‘Purple’ album and their brand new single ‘Meadow’.

Check out both of the performances here:

Commenting on their new lead singer, Dean DeLeo said: “We wanted someone who would not only do our earlier songs justice, but would also write new songs and carve out a different path forward with us. It took some time, but we found our guy.”

Before cherry-picking Gutt, the trio of founding members painstakingly sifted through 15,000 submissions online before they selected more than 30 singers to audition in person with the group at Studio 606 in Los Angeles.

Gutt sang with the band on the last day of auditions. Ironically, he was the only one who hadn’t submitted music online. Instead, he was invited after Robert DeLeo heard about Gutt after DeLeo had played a show in Detroit with the Hollywood Vampires.

“Talk about a happy accident,” Robert DeLeo says. “It was clear right away that Jeff had the range to sing vocally challenging songs like ‘Piece of Pie’ and ‘Interstate Love Song.’ But we soon discovered that he also has a great ear for melody and knew how to write a song.”

Speaking about the inevitable comparisons to STP’s original singer Scott Weiland, Gutt said: “No one will ever fill Scott’s shoes and I’m not trying to – he’s a legend.

“But these songs deserve to be performed and people want to hear them. I’m just honoured that the guys chose me to help them continue to build this band’s legacy.”

The Stone Temple Pilots set list at The Troubadour was as follows:

Down

Wicked Garden

Vasoline

Coma

Interstate Love Song

Plush

Big Empty

Still Remains

Meadow (new song)

Kick Out The Jams (MC5 cover)

Sex Type Thing

Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart
