He calls it 'the greatest thing that ever happened'
Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea has called jamming with the world’s most famous gorilla, Koko, as “the greatest thing that ever happened.”
The bassist – real name Michael Peter Balzary – visited the Gorilla Foundation in Woodside, California over the weekend to meet the 45-year-old female western lowland gorilla.
In a one-minute clip uploaded to YouTube, Koko is seen strumming the bass and twiddling with knobs as a dumbfounded Flea looks on.
He says in the background: “This is just the greatest thing that ever happened. This is the day that I will never forget in my life.”
The Gorilla Foundation wrote on their website: “One of Koko's favourite musicians, Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers came to visit. Koko was thrilled by the mellow sounds and a jamming session followed with Koko strumming on Flea's bass!”
Flea also posted a series of photos to Instagram praising his “sweet and true friend Koko.”
In an Instagram video of Koko inspecting his nipples, Flea wrote: “Nipples! Titties!!! We all have em!!!! You can help gorilla conservation at koko.org believe it or not people slaughter these incredible, intelligent, and benevolent animals for sport. They are headed towards extinction. Help if you can I beg humbly.”
