Teignmouth trio Muse have surprise released a new single called ‘Thought Contagion’.

Produced by Rich Costey and Muse, and mixed by Adam Hawkins, the song is an instantly infectious Muse anthem complete with “woah-oh-oh” chants.

Explaining what the song is about, Matt Bellamy says: “The meaning of the song ‘Thought Contagion’ is about how other people’s thoughts, ideas and beliefs can sometimes infect your mind, get into your head and change the way you think yourself”.

The gloriously bonkers accompanying video was directed by Lance Drake (who also helmed the band’s Dig Down video) and is described by the band as an “‘80s infectious neon love story.”

Packed with references to umpteen movies and music videos from the eighties – from Back To The Future to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and a sprinkling of Tron, you can feast your eyes on the video here:

Muse recently told fans not to expect a follow-up to 2015’s ‘Drones’ any time soon - instead they’re eyeing up a series of singles and EP releases

“The good thing is we’re gonna put out songs like Dig Down ahead of the album,” explained Matt Bellamy. “We’re going to put out at least another three songs… or even more ahead of the next album coming out.”

“People are going to see into the creative process as we’re writing and recording the songs, and we’re going to put them out quite soon after.

“Even though the overall album will be a long wait some of the songs are going to be available way ahead of that.
