WATCH: Motionless In White's Chris Motionless on performance amnesia and 'nu-metal revival'
Shortly after stepping off the Download Festival Main Stage on Friday afternoon, ever-genial Motionless In White lynchpin Chris Motionless spoke to Kerrang! Radio’s Johnny Doom.
Asked by Johnny how the set went down, for Chris it was something of a blur: “I don’t remember honestly!
“It’s one of those moments in life where you kind of black out and then it just happens in bits and pieces. I’ll be laying in bed tonight and I’ll be like ‘holy s--- I remember everything now!’ It’s one of those moments like fragments are in my brain.”
He continued: “We were really excited (about performing at Download), we debuted a new song off our album (The Graveyard Shift) – we played it live for the first time today, we had to come up with something to battle the fact we were playing in daylight, we couldn’t have lights or anything or crazy production so we were like ‘let’s play a brand new song for the first time’ so that was really cool.”
Adorned in trademark black with shiny PVC trousers and gloves, Chris admitted he wasn’t really anticipating sun-kissed weather: “It’s the first time that I’ve been here that I’ve not been getting p---ed on by rain.
“I was expecting rain. I was like OK, I’ll just wear stuff that it will glide right off. Now I’m baking to death, a human oven.”
Quizzed by Johnny about whether Motionless In White’s recent album ‘The Graveyard Shift’ saw the band delve into nu-metal realms, Chris said he’s comfortable with the idea.
“People have stated it’s part of the ‘nu-metal revival’,” Chris said. “I was like ‘alright, whatever you want to say.’ I’m not mad about it, I mean those (nu-metal) bands are bands that I loved growing up and obviously with (Korn’s) Jonathan Davis being a guest vocalist on the album (on track ‘Necessary Evil’) you can tell Korn is a pretty big influence on our band so I think y’know it has (nu-metal) sounds.”
