Green Day were one of the smorgasbord of artists paying musical homage to the late-great Chuck Berry over the weekend.

The father of rock n’ roll died aged 90 at his home in Missouri on Saturday afternoon (18th March) prompting an outpouring of tributes from artists including Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Slash and Dave Mustaine to the ‘greatest pure rock 'n' roll writer who ever lived.’

Hours after Chuck’s passing, on Saturday night the likes of Bon Jovi, Red Hot Chili Peppers and KISS’s Gene Simmons all played versions of Chuck Berry’s 1958 classic ‘Johnny B. Goode’ at their respective shows.

Then last night (19th March) at Budweiser Gardens in Ontario, Canada it was the turn of Green Day who blitzed through a scintillating version of the track that was imbued with the rock n’ roll spirit from start to finish.
