Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor performed a slick cover of David Bowie’s 1983 classic ‘China Girl’ at two tribute concerts in Los Angeles this week.
The Celebrating David Bowie tribute events at The Wiltern on Tuesday and Wednesday featured David Bowie’s former band members performing alongside a smorgasbord of guest musicians.
Showcasing the malleability of his voice, Corey stepped on stage wearing a Bowie t-shirt on both nights and belted out a soulful rendition of ‘China Girl’.
You can watch Corey’s performance from Tuesday here:
A huge David Bowie fan, Corey has spoken numerous times on the profound influence the late legend had on him. He also has a sizeable tattoo of the Aladdin Sane incarnation of Bowie on his left forearm.
Other guest singers in Los Angeles included The Cult’s Ian Astbury (performing ‘Rock and Roll Suicide’), Def Leppard’s Joe Elliot (‘Suffragette City’ and ‘All The Young Dudes’) and Jane’s Addition’s Perry Farrell (‘Golden Years’).
The Celebrating David Bowie events in Los Angeles follow sell-out shows at New York’s Terminal 5 and London’s Brixton Academy earlier this month. The show moves on to Sydney on Sunday (29th January) and Tokyo next Friday (2nd February).
