Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor has performed a poignant version of ‘Purple Rain’ in homage to Prince, who died yesterday aged 57.

Shockwaves were felt across the music world when news of Prince’s untimely death broke with Corey Taylor just one of the many stars to express their grief on Twitter.

Hours later, Corey opened his sold out solo show at First Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota with a truly beautiful cover of 1984 classic ‘Purple Rain’ that prompted a mass sing-along from the crowd.

Corey told the audience: "In a world where so many people treat music like a commodity, it was always refreshing to know that there was always Prince. There was always Prince. And he may be gone, but we have a lifetime of music."
