Trent Reznor halted Nine Inch Nails’ gig at The Joint in Las Vegas last Friday (15th November) to FaceTime his cancer-stricken friend Andrew Youssef.

Shortly before the second encore track ‘In This Twilight’, Reznor told the sold-out crowd: “We have a close friend to the band that got some bad news about his health recently and was hoping to make it out to this show but unfortunately things have deteriorated to the point where he can’t leave his home back in LA.

“So if you want to indulge me for a second, I thought it would be cool to have a Bono moment and try to FaceTime him (Youssef)"

When music photographer Youssef answered, Reznor gave him a look around the arena before telling his friend: "Listen, I just wanted to tell you that I miss you man. I wish you were here."

In an incredibly touching moment, the 4,000 capacity crowd then proceeded to shout Andrew’s name in unison.

Afterwards, Youssef took to Twitter to tell Trent: “Completely humbled. I can't thank you and @nineinchnails enough. I wouldn't still be here if it wasn't for you.”

Youssef has had stage IV colon cancer for the past two-and-a-half years but despite his ailing health has continued to shoot photos at a string of music events including Austin City Limits, Coachella and Outside Lands in August where his favourite band Nine Inch Nails were performing.

He has been blogging about his experiences in his column Last Shot for OC Weekly where Reznor first read about his plight.
