Tony Iommi Song Selected By Armenia For Eurovision!
The Black Sabbath legend's track will be performed in Sweden
A song penned by Black Sabbath hero Tony Iommi has been picked by Armenia as their official Eurovision Song Contest entry this May.
On Saturday evening Gor Sujyan, the frontman of Armenian rock act Dorians, sang four songs in front of a live television audience that phone voted for their favourite track.
A little-known demo called ‘Lonely Planet’ which Iommi crafted the music for came out on top and Sujyan will be heading to Sweden on 16th May for the semi-final of the ultra-tacky event.
If Sujyan wins through to the next round, he’ll represent the Eastern European state in the final two days later.
65-year-old Iommi announced the news on his official website, writing:
"Well here's something different, one of my demo ideas has been chosen as the Armenian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest! It went on a short list and Saturday night was voted as the winner. I did the music and the performing band Dorians wrote the lyrics, it's called 'Lonely Planet'. They're a good band, the singer has a really good voice and the lyrics they've written are in English. It now goes to the semi-final on May 16th in Malmo, Sweden.”
Tony Iommi has a long history with the country having performed at Rock Aid Arenia in the late eighties. He also teamed up with Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan to generate funds for a music school in 2011.
He added: “Glad to be able to be involved with Armenia again, the school is coming along fine, they've got the furniture sorted and it will be opened late summer."
