System of a Down singer Serj Tankian was a very special surprise guest at the Game of Thrones Live concert at The Forum in Inglewood, California last Thursday night (23rd March).

Touring 24 arenas around the US and Canada, the Game of Thrones Live Concert Experience features the HBO show’s composer Ramin Djawadi conducting an 80-piece orchestra and choir on a 360-degree stage.

Midway through the performance at The Forum, Serj Tankian walked on stage to lend his idiosyncratic vocals to a spine-tingling rendition of ‘The Rains of Castamere’ – a famous song in Westeros dedicated to House Lannister.

Fans have been quick to heap praise on Serj’s performance writing comments like: “Holy christ, this sent shivers up my spine. I forgot how operatic Serj Tankian's voice can be. Beautiful.”

Another attendee said: “This was the most gorgeous thing I've heard in a while. I was bawling the whole time he was singing. Glad I saw it live.”

The seventh season of Game of Thrones premieres on Sky Atlantic at 2am on Monday 17th July. It’s repeated at 9pm later that evening.

System of a Down headline Download Festival this June alongside Biffy Clyro and Aerosmith. Tickets are on sale from Kerrang! Radio Tickets now.
