The Smashing Pumpkins are counting down to a big announcement this week
WHAT COULD IT BE?!
The Smashing Pumpkins have started counting down to a big announcement later this week.
Since the weekend, the band’s website has been emblazoned with a countdown clock pointing to an announcement at 5pm on Thursday (15th February).
In addition to the website tease, billboard posters have started appearing in America featuring the iconic Smashing Pumpkins heart logo and the date ‘2-15-18’.
Band lynchpin Billy Corgan himself shared an image of the signage along with a quote from W B Yates’ 1899 poem Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven, that reads: 'But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; tread softly because you tread on my dreamed.'
On top of this, the official Smashing Pumpkins Instagram reposted an image Billy’s shared of two women wearing angel wings; a post that led fans to speculate whether it’s the two girls on the ‘Siamese Dream’ cover grown up.
Incidentally, the universally lauded ‘Siamese Dream’ turns 25 years old at the end of July.
It’s a dead cert that the announcement in question will be the reformation of three quarters of the classic Smashing Pumpkins line-up. Whether it will also include live dates, new music or tour celebrating a classic Pumpkins album like the aforementioned ‘Siamese Dream’ is open to speculation.
Last week a leaked photo emerged of a photoshoot featuring original members Billy Corgan, guitarist James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain together with guitarist (Jeff Schroeder who joined the band in 2007) standing in front of a white backdrop amidst a rugged landscape.
Original bassist D’arcy Wretzky reportedly ruled herself out of the reunion last month, telling BlastEcho: “My apologies to all of the Smashing Pumpkins fans out there who are excited about this oncoming reunion tour of the original members of the band.
“I know this is a huge disappointment for me, as well, but it’s not going to happen (with me). I only just found about yesterday that the band has decided to go with a different bass player.”
Roll on 5pm on Thursday!
