Corey Taylor breaks the good news

Corey Taylor says Slipknot are eyeing up a summer 2019 release date for their sixth studio album, which they will support with a world tour.
The masked metallers have stated in previous interviews that the follow-up to October 2014’s ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’ will tentatively land in 2019, and now Corey Taylor has confirmed they’re working towards a summer release.
Corey told Resurrection Fest TV: “Next year is a big year for Slipknot. We’re definitely thinking about a big world tour. We’re going to try and play everywhere in the world.”
Questioned about a potential release date, Corey said: "Probably summer. It all depends on when we get in the studio.
“Right now, the plan is for us to be in the studio early next year, in the first couple of months. So, a couple of months to get that going, a couple of months to get production, new masks, new outfits, new everything. And hopefully be able to come and start touring in the summer when the album comes out.”
Corey continued: “Right now, we have 20 songs that we’ve demoed. And they’re really good. So it’ll just come down to which ones come out the best and we make the album out of that.
“However, the way we’re talking right now, we’re trying to find ways that everyone can hear all the songs. So we’ll put the album out and then maybe we’ll release something after that.
“It’s something that we’re trying to think of – giving the audience more, giving the fans more of us.
“But it’s gotta make sense, it’s gotta be Slipknot. It can’t just be something we throw out there because we can. It’s gotta have art, it’s gotta have content, it’s gotta have passion to it.”
In an interview with Billboard earlier in April, Corey confirmed he has “written lyrics to almost all” of the record, which Clown, Jim Root and Jay Weinberg have been working on for some time now.
“The guys are writing tons of music and I’ve written lyrics to almost all of it and we’re going to start trying to put together demos here and there with the time off that I have and really try to get ahead of the curve as far as what happens next,” Corey said.
“I know that we’re gonna try and put an album out next year (in 2019) – however, that is all speculation. The best way to make God laugh is to announce your plans out loud. So, I’m just going with the flow. The plan right now is next year, but that is a huge plan because we still haven’t narrowed anything down, so we will definitely see what happens.”
Enthusing about the record to Music Universe back in February, Corey said “It's everything I wanted it to be.”
He added: “They've been sending me stuff here and there. And it's so funny too, because they're, like, 'We don't wanna send you anything till it's ready.' And I'm, like, 'All right. All right.' I've been very patient.
“I've gotten about six songs now, and they're really, really good. And just in kind of that demo form. And by 'demo,' I mean really just the fact that it's maybe a little longer than it will end up. Because what you wanna do is you wanna take that idea and extrapolate it to the point where you've exhausted every kind of idea.
“And then you kind of take it and you shorten it and you break it down and you formulate it and you get it to a little more solid, a little more fluid. And that's where it's at right now.
