Fresh from premiering their blistering new single ‘Piggy’ exclusively on Kerrang! Radio Breakfast with Sophie K this morning, the mighty Skunk Anansie have now shared the lyric video.
A fiery and sonically abrasive punk-rock banger, ‘Piggy’ is one of the heaviest songs of Skunk Anansie’s illustrious 28-year career and it pulls no punches as it takes vitriolic aim at the those in power around the world.
Speaking to Sophie K about ‘Piggy’, Skunk Anansie singer Skin said “I guess it’s classic riff-tastic Skunk Anansie but with an edge. I think this is probably one of the rawest songs in terms of my vocal performance.
“I literally remember being in the studio and having nothing left in my voice until the very last lyric of this song. I was like, ‘Okay, I can't sing anymore. That’s it I’ve completely shot my voice on that song.’ But it was totally worth it.”

Commenting on the song’s themes, Skin added: “It's about this current situation that we're all in right now - the death of truth and the rise of just unadulterated pure greed at the expense of everybody else in society.”
After praising producer Cam Blackwood for capturing the “dark and depraved spirit” of the band, Skin added: “I think we're living in a society where so many things are like ‘oh, what on earth is going on?!’ So, the lyrics kind of show that.
“Central is this character, this piggy character, that I kind of visualised when I was writing the lyrics. Even now I feel like the rage rising and making me go into a slight sweat of how bad things are in England, that this glorious country has turned to absolute crap.”
She added: “Not to get too political but that's kind of where the song comes from really. I just want to scream my head off sometimes. And so, I did in the studio over this song.”
Guitarist Martin "Ace" Kent told Sophie K: “(‘Piggy’) is just a crazy, huge kind of outpouring of madness isn't it that we just wrote in a couple of minutes in the room and it just gelled. And I think that's some of our best moments like when we wrote stuff like ‘(My) Ugly Boy’ (from 2010 album ‘Wonderlustre’) we just got up and started playing it.
“We didn't change it much. It’s one of those songs that just worked. When we went in the studio, we actually cut it really quickly as well. So sometimes I like that, it's like a pure essence. It just gets captured. It's cut, it's recorded, it's put out. And the crazy thing is it's probably one of the heaviest things we've done in years and years and years. But everyone I seem to know absolutely loves it. Even people that love a Joni Mitchell ballad!”
