Sir Paul McCartney Fronts Nirvana Reunion
At a charity gig in New York last night
Sir Paul McCartney fronted a much-hyped Nirvana reunion at a charity gig in New York last night (12th December).
The Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Gardens saw McCartney join forces with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear on a brand new track called 'Cut Me Some Slack'.
The performance was the first time the two surviving Nirvana stars had played live together in almost two decades.
Before the pair’s arrival on stage, McCartney recounted a story of “jamming with some guys” recently before he suddenly realised he was “in the middle of a Nirvana reunion.”
McCartney played a nine-song set at the gig, which included Beatles classics ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘Blackbird’ plus ‘Live and Let Die’. He ended a set with a cover of Alicia Keys’ ‘Empire State of Mind’.
After the gig, Dave Grohl told Fuse TV: "Tonight I played with Paul McCartney, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear. We did a song that we wrote together.
“It's a song that we wrote and recorded, no one has ever heard it before so nobody knows it exists.
“I think people were expecting us to do a Beatles song or a Nirvana song but when I first called Paul to see if he would come jam with us none of us wanted to do a Beatles song or a Nirvana song, we wanted to do a new song so we wrote and recorded a new song in a day and it's heavy as f***."
