RIP Andy Johns

The producer and sound engineer has passed away at the age of 62

Sound engineer and album producer Andy Johns, who worked on classic albums by Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin among others, has died at the age of 62.

His family have released a statement to say he passed away in LA on Sunday "after a brief hospital stay to treat complications from a stomach ulcer"

Johns started his career at Olympic Studios in London, and has worked with Rolling Stones (Exile On Main Street, Goats Head Soup, It's Only Rock & Roll), Led Zeppelin (II, III, IV, Houses Of The Holy, Physical Graffiti), Mott The Hoople (Brain Capers), Val Halen (For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge) and Joe Satriani (Time Machine, The Extremist) among many others.

His surviving relatives include brother Glyn Johns, a producer of bands including The Who, Band Of Horses, The Eagles, Bob Dylan and The Steve Miller Band.

His son is singer and guitarist Will Johns, who's performed with Joe Strummer, Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman, while his nephew Ethan Johns is a Brit Award winning producer of bands including The Vaccines, Kaiser Chiefs, Turin Breaks, Kings Of Leon and Razorlight.
