Rage Against The Machine set to announce comeback next month?

Cryptic teasers have appeared online and on posters in Los Angeles

Rage Against The Machine have seemingly launched a cryptic viral campaign hinting at a musical comeback.

The Rage Against The Machine sanctioned fan Twitter account @RATM linked through to the website prophetsofrage.com on social media last night, which directs fans to a mailing list and a countdown to 1st June.

Once signed up to the mailer, you get an email that reads: "Clear the way for the Prophets of Rage. The party's over summer 2016."

At around the same time, posters started appearing around Los Angeles emblazoned with the website’s address and artwork.

Prophets of Rage is the name of a Rage Against The Machine tribute band, however it’s also the name of a Public Enemy track from their seminal 1988 album ‘It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back’.

Adding extra intrigue – and speculation that Public Enemy may be hitting the road with RATM – uncannily last night Chuck D posted two videos from Rage Against The Machine’s triumphant 2010 Finsbury Park gigs on Twitter.

The gig was held to celebrate the victorious Rage Against The Machine for Christmas Number One campaign, which saw ‘Killing In The Name’ storm to number one ahead of X Factor winner Joe McElderry’s insipid song ‘The Climb’.

Even more intriguingly, the man behind the campaign, Jon Morter, has tweeted about the Rage comeback, writing: “Lots of email re: @RATM - Can't say much sorry but don't forget they were the ones who predicted Trump for President campaign 16 years ago.”

Morter was making reference to the band’s 1999 video ‘Sleep Now in the Fire’ video, which somewhat forebodingly featured Donald Trump for President placards.

Currently on hiatus, Rage Against The Machine haven’t performed together since their appearance at LA Rising at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in July 2011.

Two years ago drummer Brad Wilk downplayed the idea of RATM sharing a stage together again, telling The Pulse: "As far as I know, we played our last show in 2011 at the Coliseum, and if that was our last show, that’s a good way to go out.

"I had sort of had to put it in my head that that band is over in order for me to just move on with my life, to be honest with you, so that’s kind of where that lies. The Coliseum - awesome way to go out."

We’ll await an announcement on 1st June with baited breath...
