Queens of the Stone Age: "Jay-Z Should F*** Off"
Josh Homme isn't a fan of the hip-hop star's security team
Queens of the Stone Age lynchpin Josh Homme has slammed Jay-Z following the band’s performance at the hip-hop mogul’s Made In America festival earlier this month.
In a candid interview with CBC Radio 2's Strombo Show, Josh called Jay-Z a “kook” after QOTSA were frisked and searched on the way into the Philadelphia event on 1st September.
He said: “Made In America with Jay-Z, that guy’s a kook, you know. He has security frisking the bands on the way in. I just told them if you open up my bag I’m not playing so I guess it’s up to you now to decide whether we are playing or not.
“They’re probably some rented duded who were watching the trash area of a movie theatre before.”
Explaining that QOTSA felt like “outsiders” at the festival, Josh continued: “The idea they frisked all my guys and all that stuff, means you’re in some different place where you’re like I don’t get this.
“No one has ever done that, apparently only at a Jay-Z style festival – maybe that’s a hip-hop thing.”
Continuing his tirade, Josh added: “Forget Jay-Z. He also gave us some champagne and wanted us to take a photo with it. And I thought that’s not a gift that is a marketing tool. So I destroyed it. Because I thought it was rude overall. And you shouldn’t frisk my guys, you should f*** off.”
Helmed by Jay-Z, the second instalment of Made In America featured performances from Nine Inch Nails, The Gaslight Anthem, Imagine Dragons, Public Enemy, Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce and a plethora of other hip-hop, pop and dance acts.
