The Prodigy have been unveiled as the third and final headliner of Sonisphere 2014.

The Braintree dance-rock crossovers will bring their ferocious live show to Sonisphere on Friday 4th July ahead of Iron Maiden and Metallica’s previously confirmed slots on the Saturday and Sunday.

Enthusing about their slot in Knebworth, Prodigy lynchpin Liam Howlett enthused: "We cant wait to play Sonisphere 2014 - we will be hittin u with some brand new beats and noise.”

Team Sonisphere said in a statement: “Famous for the sort of energy fuelled, insane and pulsating show that you can feel in your bones, we know that The Prodigy will bring something very special to Sonisphere.

“Adding this to the already announced headliner sets of Iron Maiden and Metallica is pretty much guaranteed to get the very foundations of Knebworth House shaking.”

Sonisphere 2014 will mark the 40th anniversary of rock events held in the hallowed grounds of Knebworth House.

After the inaugural 1974 event with Van Morrison and the Allman Brothers, the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Genesis, The Who and Pink Floyd have all graced Knebworth in the ensuing years.

Sonisphere debuted at Knebworth in 2009 and over its initial three year run boasted spectacular sets from Slipknot, Rammstein, Biffy Clyro and Linkin Park.

Iron Maiden and Metallica’s slots next year will mark the first time they’ve ever shared a bill together on UK soil.

Metallica will also be performing By Request, asking ticketholders to cast their vote on the band’s setlist.

No strangers to headlining rock events, The Prodigy topped the bill on the opening night of Download Festival 2012.

Taking place from Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July 2013, tickets to Sonisphere are on sale from kerrangradio.co.uk/tickets right now!
