Watch: Stage-diving fan gets hair caught in Phil Demmel's guitar
Ouch
A fan almost got scalped when he stage-dived and got his hair caught in Phil Demmel’s guitar at a recent Vio-lence show in California.
The ex-Machine Head axeman, who recently revived his Bay Area thrash metal band Vio-lence, shared video footage of the painful incident at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles on Friday night (31st May).
As the Instagram clip shows, the exuberant audience member dives onto the stage before launching himself back into the audience.
Returning back on stage for a second time, Demmel then pushes the stage-invader away but his luscious wavy locks get entangled in the headstock of Demmel’s guitar.
Following a bit of a tussle, a sizable chunk of the audience member’s hair gets ripped out. Watch the video here:
Demmel later shared pictorial evidence of the clump of hair, writing “And the award for most hair assembled in a headstock goes to……”
Ouch.
Following a lengthy 16-year tenure with Machine Head, Demmel left the band in November 2018. Drummer Dave McClain also departed at the same time.
In a recent interview with Pitts of Metal and Motor Chaos, Demmel said: "We weren't a band. That was Robb (Flynn)'s trip, and we were basically just being told what was gonna happen …
“It was just like, 'Man, I'm punching the clock here. I'm gonna show up. What songs do you wanna play? Okay. Cool. We're gonna play the songs. When are the dates? Okay. Cool.' For the last cycle, it was the paycheck. That was my living. I didn't like my job anymore."
Demmel's former band, Machine Head, celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album ‘Burn My Eyes’ with a very special UK tour this November.
Taking in London O2 Academy Brixton, Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse, Glasgow O2 Academy and Belfast Telegraph Building in the first week of November.
