Nirvana and KISS have been named among the 2014 inductees of the US Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Also being awarded for their musical excellence and contribution to the industry are Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oates, Cat Stevens and Linda Ronstadt.

Late-great Beatles manager Brian Epstein and Rolling Stones Svengali Andrew Loog Oldham are sharing the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.

Artists are eligible to enter the hallowed Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their debut album – Nirvana, who released ‘Bleach’ in 1989, are entering at their first possible window.

The inductees were whittled down by a 600 strong music industry panel from a long list of candidates whose material stretches back more than a quarter of a century.

Despite being nominated, big name acts including Deep Purple, The Zombies, NWA, Yes, Chic and Cat Stevens failed to make the final inductees list.

Next year’s induction ceremony takes place at The Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday 10th April.
