Nirvana Inducted Into Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame

Following the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death last week, Nirvana were last night inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

During the course of the ceremony at New York's Barclays Center, the band's surviving members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and live guitarist Pat Smear performed four Nirvana songs with guest vocalists including Joan Jett and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon.

The duty of actually inducting the band fell to REM's Michael Stipe, who said in his speech: "Nirvana tapped into a voice that was yearning to be heard.

"Nirvana were kicking against the mainstream. They spoke truth and a lot of people listened."

Krist Novoselic added: "Nirvana fans walk up to me every day and say thank you for the music.

"When I hear that, I think of Kurt Cobain."

Courtney Love, also in attendance said simply: "You know, I have a big speech, but I'm not going to say it. That's it, I just wish Kurt was here to do this."

Also inducted into the Hall Of Fame were KISS, who did not perform because of the ongoing disagreement between the active and retired members of the band, plus Hall and Oates and Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.
