The Who Namecheck AC/DC and Daft Punk on New Single

'Be Lucky' is released to mark their 50th anniversary

Rock heroes The Who have unveiled their first new single in eight years to mark their 50th anniversary celebrations.

Lifted from the band’s upcoming compilation The Who Hits 50!, ‘Be Lucky’ namechecks fellow iconic veterans AC/DC – who announced Malcolm Young’s departure earlier this week - plus French dance act Daft Punk.

“You wanna climb without a safety line, AC/DC’s gonna be fine,” sings Roger Daltrey over Pete Townshend’s trademark riffs.

Referencing one of AC/DC’s biggest tracks, Daltrey sings later: “If you want to want to sell, you’ve got to kiss and tell, And you’ve got to do a cover of Highway to Hell.”

The title itself could be seen as a direct reference to Daft Punk’s 2013 summer smash ‘Get Lucky’ and the robotic duo duly get a mention in the song.

“You want to climb without a safety line, Daft Punk will tell you that it’s gonna be fine,” sings Daltrey.

The band have also announced that proceeds from the track will be donated to Teen Cancer America.

"In keeping with their ongoing support for Teenage Cancer charities, the band have donated their royalties from the song to Teen Cancer America,” they wrote on their official website.

Roger Daltrey is a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust and has been instrumental in organising the annual gigs for the charity held at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Packed with hits from their 50 year history, The Who Hits 50! is released on 27th October 2014.
