Muse unleash epic new song 'Mercy' ahead of headline Download Festival slot - LISTEN
The latest offshoot from 'Drones'
Muse have premiered the third track from their upcoming album ‘Drones’ – the epic ‘Mercy’.
Having previously unveiled two new songs ‘Dead Inside’ and ‘Psycho’, ‘Mercy’ continues the themes of those tracks in keeping with the concept album.
Singer and guitarist Matt Bellamy said: The opening line of ‘Mercy’ - ‘help me I’ve fallen on the inside' - is a reference to the protagonist knowing and recognizing that they have lost something, they have lost themselves.
“This is where he realizes that he is being overcome by the dark forces that were introduced to him in ‘Psycho’.”
Co-produced by Muse alongside the legendary Robert John ‘Mutt’ Lange, ‘Drones’ lands on 8th June, five days ahead of their eagerly anticipated headline slot at Download Festival.
Matt said of the record: “(It) explores the journey of a human, from his abandonment and loss of hope, to his indoctrination by the system to be a human drone, to his eventual defection from their oppressors."
The Drones track-listing is as follows:
- Dead Inside 2. Drill Sergeant 3. Psycho 4. Mercy 5. Reapers 6. The Handler 7. JFK 8. Defector 9. Revolt 10. Aftermath 11. The Globalist 12. Drones
