Muse to unearth early musical gems for upcoming release ‘Origin of Muse’

Muse singer Matt Bellamy says the band are preparing to re-release their first two albums under the title ‘Origin of Muse’.
Alongside 1999’s ‘Showbiz’ and 2001’s blockbuster breakthrough ‘Origin of Symmetry’, the “autobiographical” ‘Origin of Muse’ will also boast a veritable smorgasbord of rarities and unheard demos from their embryonic years.
“We’re going to do a sort of reissue version of (the first two albums),” Matt told US radio station KROQ. “It’s more like a story of the band, and we’re going to call it Origin Of Muse. It’s going to be like an autobiography, but an autobiography of the music side in terms of how we got to that point. And it also contains some rare, older material that people haven’t heard.
“The evolution that the band went through from when we were 16, 17 to getting the Origin Of Symmetry album out was quite severe. There were a lot of changes. It will be for the fans, it will be a pretty cool thing.”
Asked when it’s likely to see the light of day, Matt added: “We’re working on it now. We’re digging through a lot of archive stuff from that time, and we’re trying to find a way of packaging it all together. The idea would be to get that out in the summer, I guess. Actually no, probably more like in the fall I’d say. At the rate we’re working at it.”
Taking part in an impromptu fan Q&A on Twitter on Monday evening, Matt revealed a few extra nuggets of information about the release.
Last week, Muse premiered the brand new song ‘Dig Down’ and its accompanying futuristic video.
Co-produced by Mike Elizondo and Muse and mixed by Spike Stent, the slow-building track centres on themes of unity and survival when your back’s against the wall.
Matt Bellamy says: “When I was writing this song I was looking to counteract the current negativity in the world and give inspiration, optimism and hope to people to fight for the causes they believe in; that as individuals we can choose to change the world if we want to.”
Following their epic North American tour with Thirty Seconds to Mars and PVRIS, Muse headline Belfast Vital on 23rd August and Reading & Leeds Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
