Muse cancel Istanbul gig due to 'capricious events in Turkey'
They apologise to their fans
Muse have axed an upcoming gig in Turkey due to the volatile political climate in the wake of the military coup d'état attempt last Friday and Saturday.
The Teignmouth trio were due to play the Nebula Festival in Istanbul on Tuesday 26th July but have confirmed they will no longer be travelling to the country.
A statement on their official website reads: “We regret that in light of recent capricious events in Turkey, we have decided to cancel our concert which was scheduled to take place on July 26th.
“You can get a full refund for your tickets at www.biletix.com or at all Bile outlets. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We look forward to seeing our Turkish fans in the future.”
After playing shows in Greece and Romania this month, Muse conclude their sprawling Drones World Tour with gigs in Iceland, Hungary and the Netherlands in August.
Earlier this month Muse’s fervent followers launched an online petition for the band to play a tour of intimate venues with the setlist decided by the fans themselves.
The idea was sparked following Muse’s performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland where the trio played a string of older songs that haven’t been performed in a while.
Answering fan pleas on Twitter, Matt suggested that a “club setting” similar to 2015’s ultra-intimate Psycho UK Tour would work best and it could be a “by request type thing.”
The petition has so far attracted just under 4,000 signatures.
