Mickey Mouse announces pop-punk album and unleashes Simple Plan cover of Elton John
A Whole New Sound
Last updated 12th Jul 2024
Disney’s beloved cartoon rodent, Mickey Mouse, has announced details of his first studio album in 45 years, the pop-punk record ‘A Whole New Sound.’
Released later this year, the album sees Mickey and his friends Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, and Pluto bring together rock, alternative and pop-punk bands for heavy remakes of classic Disney songs.
Mickey’s seismic impact on the music world, of course, is very well-known, with his inaugural appearance in Steamboat Willie in 1928 marking the first animation to feature synchronised sound.
As a cultural icon, music has never been just a phase for Mickey as he is a huge music fan and has an extensive record collection, which gave him the idea for this new album made for fans of all generations.
As a taster for ‘A Whole New Sound’, Mickey has enlisted Canadian pop punks Simple Plan to remake Elton John’s ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight?’ in honour of The Lion King from Walt Disney Animation Studios and its 30th anniversary.
Listen to Simple Plan’s cover of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’:
Simple Plan said of the track: “We wanted to pay homage to Sir Elton John’s original version while also adding our own style to it and making it sound fun and energetic. We’re really stoked by how it turned out and we hope everyone will enjoy it.
“We grew up watching Disney movies with our families and now we get to enjoy them with our own kids so it’s pretty amazing to have been invited to be on this album.”
Alongside premiering the lead single, Mickey Mouse has also shared the artwork to ‘A Whole New Sound’:
