Newly released figures reveal that Metallica smashed attendance records at all five dates on the UK leg of their WorldWired Tour.
As well as giving fans an all-consuming, immersive experience, the band’s truly phenomenal in-the-round production allowed the four venues to increase their capacity on each night.
At the opening show at London’s The O2 on Sunday 22nd October, the metal titans were watched by 22,134 fans making it the best attended single concert performance by one headliner since the venue opened a decade ago.
Two nights later, they broke the record again when they pulled in 22,134 fans at the Greenwich peninsula venue.
Keeping up the ante for the rest of the tour, 13,111 packed into Glasgow’s SSE Hydro to set a new attendance record and 20,048 fans witnessed their Manchester Arena show beating their own venue record they’ve held since 2009 when 19,680 people watched them on the World Magnetic Tour.
Once again at the final night at Birmingham’s Genting Arena on Monday 30th October, Metallica drew in a record-breaking crowd of 15,604 fans.
Commenting on the achievement, Live Nation’s Executive President of UK Touring Andy Copping said “This has been an incredible achievement by Metallica – the band and everyone around them have been a pleasure to work with and they staged one of the greatest indoor shows I have ever seen.”
Metallica are reissuing their seminal album ‘Master of Puppets’ today (10th November), which has been remastered and is available in a variety of formats including a £149.99 Deluxe Box Set.
The numbered box set includes three vinyl records (with a MP3 Download Card), ten CDs, two DVDs, one cassette, a hardcover book including never-before-seen photos, a folder containing handwritten lyrics, a set of six buttons and a "Damage, Inc." lithograph.
