Metallica's James Hetfield will star alongside Zac Efron in an upcoming movie about notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.

Currently in production, the aptly titled ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’ tells the true story of serial killer, kidnapper, rapist, burglar, and necrophile Ted Bundy – played by Efron – from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer who refused to believe the truth about him for years.

Bundy attacked numerous women and girls in the seventies and he was executed in the electric chair at Florida State Prison in 1989.

According to Deadline, Hetfield will play Officer Bob Hayward, a ‘no-nonsense Utah highway patrol veteran’, who pulls Bundy over in 1975 on suspicion of burglary and soon discovers he might be hiding more hideous crimes.

The Voltage Pictures production is directed by film-maker Joe Berlinger who co-directed and co-produced the acclaimed Metallica documentary ‘Some Kind of Monster’ in 2004 and wrote the accompanying book ‘Metallica: This Monster Live’.

Berlinger personally persuaded Papa Het to take on his inaugural dramatic movie role. He says: “Having spent hundreds of hours behind the scenes with James and the rest of Metallica, I have experienced his charisma and powerful presence close up.

“It seemed only natural that he would bring that same power and magnetism to a dramatic role, so when he agreed to my pitch that he be in the movie, I was thrilled.”

As well as Zac Efron and James Hetfield, ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile’ also stars Lily Collins as Kloepfer, John Malkovich, Jim Parsons, Haley Joel Osment, Kaya Scodelario, Angela Sarafyan, Jeffrey Donovan Terry Kinney and Dylan Baker
