Metallica: 'We'd Love To Headline Glastonbury'
Lars Ulrich says the band would jump at the chance
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich says the band would jump at the chance of headlining Glastonbury Festival.
A long-time admirer of the Worthy Farm event, Lars says that although a slot on the Pyramid Stage is increasingly unlikely, they’re “ready to go” if Michael Eavis approached them.
"Every year there's probably less chance of us doing it than the previous year, but it just looks like it would be a fun night out," Lars told MTV.
"We've been fortunate enough to play every other festival on this planet numerous times, so Glastonbury is the only one that's eluding us."
He continued: "There's such a vibe and it's maybe the most quintessentially English festival. Everybody who goes there loves it and obviously Michael Eavis doesn't need our help – I completely appreciate and respect that – but if he ever wants to get hold of us we're in the Yellow Pages and ready to go!"
Last week, Lars told Kerrang! that being a metal act is the main reason prohibiting them from playing Glasto.
He told us: “We’ve never played Glastonbury, and we probably never will, because of the first five letters of our name, but I accept that.”
Last month, Deaf Havana called on Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis to invite metal acts to his farm.
“A good band is a good band, and their genre shouldn’t come into it,” vocalist James Veck-Gilodi said.
“We’d love to play Glastonbury because we want as many people as possible to sing our songs back at us.”
Metallica are primed to start work on the follow-up to 2009’s Death Magnetic next year. Watch the trailer for their IMAX concert film ‘Through The Never’ right here:
