Metallica have shared professionally-filmed footage of their performance of Rammstein’s ‘Engel’ at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday 6th July.

Just like Metallica’s show at Manchester Etihad Stadium last month, the heavens opened in Berlin, however the lashing rain did very little to quell the incredible atmosphere.

During the traditional ‘Doodle’ segment of Metallica’s Berlin gig, bassist Rob Trujillo and guitarist Kirk Hammett covered ‘Engel’ by local heroes Rammstein.

With Rob singing in pretty flawless German, the cover was greeted by a rapturous reception from the 75,000-strong crowd who sang the chorus of “Gott weiß ich will kein Engel sein” in unison.

And here’s the original Rammstein version:

A permanent fixture at Metallica shows, Rob & Kirk's Doodle sees the bassist and guitarist perform stripped back covers of songs by local acts, alongside other Metallica tracks.

The duo covered Iron Maiden’s ‘Killers’ at London’s Twickenham Stadium and The Stone Roses’ ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ at Manchester Etihad Stadium at their June shows.

The UK arena leg of the WorldWired Tour in autumn 2017 saw Hammett and Trujillo cover The Clash’s ‘London Calling’, Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song’, Iron Maiden’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’, Motörhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’, Nazareth’s ‘Hair of the Dog’, Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ during the light-hearted doodles segments in London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester.

At Slane Castle last month, Metallica treated the audience to a full band version of ‘Whiskey in the Jar’, which they dedicated to the late-great Phil Lynott.

Metallica continue the European stadium leg of their blockbuster WorldWired Tour at Kantolan Tapahtumapuisto in Hämeenlinna, Finland tonight (16th July).

Rammstein play Coventry Ricoh Arena on Saturday 20th June 2020 in addition to their previously announced show at Belfast Boucher Road Playing Field three days earlier.
