Metallica add Iron Maiden, Deep Purple & Rainbow covers to 'Hard Wired… to Self Destruct'
They give the bonus disc an overhaul
Two months ahead of its release, Metallica have completely overhauled the third disc on the deluxe edition of ‘Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.’
When the album was unveiled on 18th August it was confirmed that the bonus disc would intriguingly contain 13 ‘Riff Origins’ samplers - the embryonic riffs that formed the basis of the album tracks.
Now, aside from third disc opener ‘Lords of Summer’, the band have completely ditched the Riff Origins cuts in favour of other tracks.
“As we were in the 11th hour of wrapping it up, it dawned on us that we have never shared with you in any sort of cohesive ‘official’ manner the extensive covers we have worked on since Death Magnetic,” Metallica said.
“While digging into the bonus options to complement the 12-song album with additional material, we realized that none of our versions of these songs from some of our favourite and most respected artists have been readily available on our very own Blackened Recordings.
“So with that said, we’re here to tell you about some changes we’ve made to the deluxe versions of Hardwired... in place of the previously announced “Riff Origins.”

The disc will now include covers of Iron Maiden’s 1980 opus ‘Remember Tomorrow’, Deep Purple’s 1972 classic ‘When A Blind Man Cries’ plus ‘Ronnie Rising Medley’ from the Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life tribute album. All have been remastered for optimum sound quality.
Clocking it at just over nine minutes the ‘Ronnie Rising Medley’ consists of the Rainbow tracks ‘A Light In The Black’, ‘Tarot Woman’, ‘Stargazer’ & ‘Kill The King’.
Completing the third disc are nine live tracks recorded at Rasputin’s Music in Berkeley, California on Record Store Day 2016 plus ‘Hardwired’ recorded in Minneapolis.
