Mastodon Name Sixth Album 'Once More Round The Sun'
The follow-up to 'The Hunter' is out later this year
Mastodon have confirmed that their sixth studio album is called ‘Once More Round the Sun’.
The 60-minute album contains 15 brand new tracks including ‘Diamonds in the Witch House’ (featuring Scott Kelly from Neurosis) and ‘Ember City’.
Announced the title to Paste Magazine, Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders said: “After we finished the two-year cycle on our last record, we were kind of gearing up to go back to our rehearsal space.
“We were starting the effort – the time, the blood, the energy, the months of driving, the recording and the long process between recording and release day.
“We’re fortunate enough to do this again – but there is this feeling of this cycle. It’s not a bad thing; it’s embracing the positive. And like anything in the Mastodon world, it’s open to interpretation.”
Sanders also revealed that there’s 30 minutes of extra material that didn’t make it onto the record that they’re hoping to release as an EP.
As always with Mastodon, the album is going to come complete with some “very striking” artwork. AJ Fosik’s wooden sculpture that adorned ‘The Hunter’ was widely acclaimed upon its release in 2011.
Sanders said of the new artwork: “It’s going to be very eye-opening, very striking. It’s from another dimension, and a lot of our music is geared toward that idea - taking you to another planet on songs. I think it’s incredible.”
Mastodon play the Apollo Stage at Sonisphere on Sunday 6th July hours before headliners Metallica take to the stage.
