WATCH: Marilyn Manson forces fan to take off his Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt
This is awkward...
Marilyn Manson forced a fan to remove an Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt during a recent performance at Download Festival in Madrid.
The shock rocker, real name Brian Hugh Warner, invited a selection of fans on stage ahead of launching into ‘Heaven Upside Down’ offshoot ‘Kill4Me’.
However, Manson took exception to one fan who was sporting an Avenged Sevenfold T-shirt. The Huntington Beach metallers were headlining the event that evening.
In a clip uploaded to Facebook, Manson shuns a hug from the excited fan before saying: “You should take your shirt off. That’s not my band, it’s a different band. You can wear that flag instead of the shirt. Take the shirt off, it’s not my band.”
The visibly perplexed fan eventually agrees to take off his top and hold the flag over his body. You can watch the whole awkward moment here:
The shaming has parallels with an infamous KISS interview in 2012 when Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons asked the interviewer to take off his Iron Maiden T-shirt.
In a now-deleted YouTube clip, the interviewer Gustavo introduces the band to the camera before singer Paul Stanley leans over and points to the Iron Maiden logo on his The Number of the Beast t-shirt, saying: "Gustavo, I have a question to ask. KISS is K-I-S-S. This does not spell KISS, Gustavo. You made a big mistake."
Gustavo responds: “Honestly, I picked this t-shirt specially to do the interview with you guys. It’s not cool to wear a KISS t-shirt doing a KISS interview.”
Gene Simmons then urges a member of the band’s crew to find a KISS t-shirt before saying: “That’s not gonna happen, I don’t want him wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt. How about if (you did an) Iron Maiden interview and we wear KISS t-shirts? Is that ok? You don’t understand.”
Marilyn Manson’s only remaining scheduled show for 2018 is at Voodoo Festival in New Orleans in October.
