LISTEN: Metallica unleash new single 'Hardwired' and announce new album

The mighty Metallica have announced full details of their first studio album in eight years ‘Hardwired… To Self-Destruct’.
Released across the globe on Friday 18th November, the follow-up to 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic’ is a double album that contains 12 tracks across two discs and clocks in at more than 80 minutes.
Coinciding with the album’s announcement, the metal legends have unleashed the blistering opener ‘Hardwired’ and the equally frenetic official video, which you can watch right here:
The record was produced by Greg Fidelman alongside Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield, and, according to the band, ‘represents the next phase of our journey as Metallica’.
Everyone who pre-orders the record through Metallica’s official website will receive ‘Hardwired’ as a free download. It’s available as a double CD, double vinyl, digital download and a deluxe edition complete with an intriguing third disc of the embryonic riffs that formed the basis of the album.
“Has it really been eight years? Doesn’t feel like it! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink,” says Lars Ulrich. “We’re obviously beyond psyched to share new tunes with all our friends out there.
"We’ve been rockin’ along in the studio with Greg on and off for the last 18 months firing up the creative engines again. Putting new music out there, getting in your faces once again and all that comes with it is what we love to do more than anything else, so strap yourselves in … INCOMING!”
Like a warped version of Love’s ‘Forever Changes’, the accompanying artwork melds the quartet’s heads together into one glorious screaming human form.
