Linkin Park set for three Top 10 chart entries following Chester Bennington’s death
The band dominates this week's chart
Linkin Park records are taking over the Official Album Chart this week in the wake of Chester Bennington’s death.
Nine of the band’s long-players are set to enter the Top 100 this week with seven of them comfortably inside the Top 40, according to the Official Charts Company.
Linkin Park’s 2000 breakthrough smash ‘Hybrid Theory’ is currently the highest charting album at Number 3, while their most recent record, May 2017’s ‘One More Light’, is at 5. Not too far behind is 2003’s ‘Meteora’ at 7.
2007 chart-topper ‘Minutes To Midnight’ is at 12 followed by 2004 Jay-Z collaboration ‘Collision Course’ (30), 2010’s ‘A Thousand Suns’ (37) and 2012’s ‘Living Things’ (40).
Currently outside the Top 40 are 2002 remix album ‘Reanimation’ (69) and 2014’s ‘The Hunting Party’ (77).
The band’s chart takeover isn’t just limited to their albums; on the singles chart, ‘In The End’ is at Number 9, ‘Numb’ is at 13 and ‘Number/Encore’ is at 29.
Chester’s body was discovered on Thursday morning (20th July) by an employee at his Palos Verdes Estates home in Los Angeles.
On Friday, Ed Winter, spokesman for the L.A. County medical examiner-coroner, confirmed that Chester had died by hanging himself from a bedroom door.
This afternoon, Linkin Park released a highly poignant message directly addressed to Chester on their social channels.
It reads:
“Dear Chester,
“Our hearts are broken. The shock waves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.
“You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realised. In the past few days, we've seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world.
“Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.
“Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious. Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled-a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing.
“We're trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal. After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place.
“You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human. You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.
“Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable. While we don't know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you. Thank you for that gift. We love you, and miss you so much.
