Limp Bizkit premiere new song 'Dad Vibes'
Fred Durst also shows off new 'dad vibes' look at Lollapalooza Festival
Last updated 30th Sep 2021
Limp Bizkit premiered a new song 'Dad Vibes' at Lollapalooza Festival over the weekend, accompanied by vocalist Fred Durst donning his new 'dad vibes' style.
As they came on stage at the Chicago based festival, Durst, in a fetching grey wig, addressed the crowd "When Dad says get up, you all get up". The dad references didn't stop there, however.
The nu-metal legends proceeded to play an hour-long set, featuring hits such as 'Nookie', 'Break Stuff' and Rollin''. After finishing with a rip-roaring version of their Mission Impossible soundtrack single 'Take A Look Around', Fred announced to the tens of thousands of gathered fans, "This is a song off our new album called 'Dad Vibes'". As the rest of the band walked off stage, the new song was pumped out over the sound system, whilst Durst wandered along the barriers, dishing out t-shirts.

It remains to be seen whether this song actually makes it onto Limp Bizkit's much-vaunted new album, as the band have a history of releasing standalone singles, and aren't averse to a bit of tongue-in-cheek production at their live shows. The fact that Fred posted the full lyrics to the track on his Instagram could be seen as confirmation that the song isn't just a little Limp joke.
We really hope this does signal the imminent arrival of new material - their last studio album 'Gold Cobra' was released 10 years ago in 2011.
Taking a look at Fred's hip new style: the Limp Bizkit frontman has tended to stick to a signature look of baseball cap and sports jerseys over his musical career, but this weekend saw the nu-metal vocalist switch it up in exchange for a grey wig, handlebar moustache, salmon shirt and a pair of sweet grey slacks.
Durst initially revealed the new look on his Instagram page on 28th July which resulted in confusion amongst fans. Taking the style one step further, at Lollapalooza a pair of red sunglasses were added to the ensemble with a jacket that was zipped up only at the top.
Comments from confused viewers came pouring in along the lines of, “Fred Durst looks like a detective that let a case get the best of him”, “Keep your mobility scooter rollin’ rollin’ rollin’” , and “Fred Durst looks like the owner of the haunted record store Scooby and the gang investigate and find out it was him all along.”
This isn’t the first time Durst’s social media has been flooded with confusing imagery, as his whole Instagram was, until recently, full of photos of station wagons. The latest costume development could well be an evolution of this dad persona, with his recent IG posts being captioned with the hashtag '#lbdadvibes'.
It's now clear that this new image is tied in with the upcoming, long-awaited sixth full-length release from the band, ‘Stampede Of The Disco Elephants’.
The record was originally announced back in 2012 and in 2014 the first single, ‘Endless Slaughter’, was premiered. The follow-up to 2011’s ‘Gold Cobra’ is still yet to appear however, but guitarist Wes Borland states that good progress is being made.
"I think he’s (Fred Durst) finally at the point now where he’s gonna pick a set of these songs that he’s finally cool with and finish ’em and we’re gonna finish the record. So, fingers crossed," explained Wes in an interview in June.
Last month Limp Bizkit announced a run of UK tour dates set for 2022.
