Lars Ulrich teases new Metallica album and tour
It has been eight long years since 'Death Magnetic'
Lars Ulrich has confirmed that Metallica are hoping to complete their tenth studio album this spring.
It’s been eight long years since the metal overlords unleashed ‘Death Magnetic’ – the longest gap between albums in their 35-year career – and fans have been anxiously waiting for concrete news of new material.
In a fresh interview with Rolling Stone, gurning drummer Lars Ulrich says the band are “quite far along” with the record and plan to finish it imminently.
Asked about Metallica’s plans for 2016, Lars said: “I think it will be a pretty in-your-face year, at least the back half of it.
“Obviously, we’ve gotta finish the new record now. But thankfully we’re quite far along. Hopefully, we should be able to knock that on the head this spring, I would guess. So we will be gearing up and playing shows and doing all that fun stuff again soon.”
The band have been drip-feeding the public information about the album in recent months with Kirk Hammett saying they have "a bunch of songs, more than enough songs.”
He added: "We're slogging away. But you know, it's metal. It's heavy."
We’ll await confirmation of the album and Metallica tour with bated breath.
