Kurt Cobain self-portrait expected to fetch huge sum at auction
The Nirvana legend drew it during the 'Nevermind' album tour
A self-portrait caricature drawn by Kurt Cobain in 1992 is expected to fetch $20,000 (around £14,160) at auction.
The late Nirvana legend created the drawing and personally gifted it to Jacque Chong, a freelance photographer who worked with Cobain during Nirvana's ‘Nevermind’ album promotional tour in Singapore in 1992.
The quick sketch is in black felt pen and depicts a rather spaced out looking Kurt playing the guitar with the misspelt words ‘Kurdt Kobain Rock Star’ to the side.
On the other side of the TNT Music Centre piece of paper are the words "I don't know how to play and I don't give a hoot!"
Julien’s Auctions in Beverley Hills, California are selling the drawing as part of their vast Music Icons 2021 auction. The auction house famously sold Kurt Cobain’s MTV Unplugged in New York guitar for a world-record $6 million (£4.8m) last summer.
The Kurt Cobain self-portrait is estimated to sell for $10,000 - $20,000.
The auction takes place in Beverly Hills and live online at Julien's Live from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th June 2021. There are also items from Alex Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen, Kurt Cobain, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Elton John, Little Richard and many more up for sale over the three days.
