Korn announce 'Requiem' album and premiere astonishing 'Start The Healing' video
The nu metal legends are back
Last updated 11th Nov 2021
Korn will unleash their 14th studio album ‘Requiem’ on Friday 4th February 2022 via Loma Vista Recordings.
The Bakersfield nu metal legends’ new record features nine songs including the phenomenal lead single ‘Start The Healing.’
Coinciding with the album announcement, Korn have premiered the visually striking and otherworldly ‘Start The Healing’ video, which is directed by Tim Saccenti (Flying Lotus, Run The Jewels, Depeche Mode).
Korn describe the video as ‘a live action and animated visual feast about death and re-birth amidst an array of preternatural creatures, humanoids and Korn's electrifying live performance symbolising the dawn of a new era for the band.’
Tim Saccenti comments: "Our idea for this video was to mutate that aspect of the DNA of Korn, of what makes them so inspiring, their mix of raw power and transportive aesthetics and human emotion.
“I wanted to take the viewer on an emotional journey, as the song does, a visceral, cathartic death and rebirth that will hopefully help transport the listener through whatever their personal struggles are.
“Collaborating with 3-D artist Anthony Ciannamea we tapped into Korn's mythology and explored their vast well of light and darkness to create a surreal, liminal-pace body-horror nightmare."
Watch Korn’s ‘Start The Healing’ video:
Korn recorded ‘Requiem’ during the coronavirus pandemic, and, free from the usual time constraints, the album sees them experiment more with their sounds to add new depth to their music.
The band began teasing their new album last week when mysterious billboards cropped up in cities around the world, including Camden Town in London.
When fans scanned the QR code on the billboard it took them to an AR filter which when used against the band’s logo brought up a tantalising snippet of music and a bizarre 3D image of a baby’s face clutched by a hand.
We now know that the 3D image of the baby’s face is the ‘Requiem’ artwork.

Nu metal bands Then & Now:
Then: Korn
Korn formed in Bakersfield, California in 1993 and are widely cited as being one of the leading torchbearers of the nu-metal genre. Singer Jonathan Davis, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer, basisst Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and guitarist Brian "Head" Welch were all members of Korn since their formation, while drummer David Silveria was a member from 1993 to 2006. Between 1994 and 1998, Korn released four studio albums – 'Korn', 'Life Is Peachy', 'Follow the Leader' and 'Issues' – that were huge critical and commercial successes and paved the way for countless other nu metal bands.
Now: Korn
The early success didn't come without costs: the band's struggles with drugs, particularly meth and alcohol, have been well documented over the years. Head quit the band in 2005, getting sober whilst finding God. After some acrimonious exchanges, he eventually returned to the band after a suprise guest performance with them in 2012. Drummer David Silveria went on hiatus in 2006 and never returned to the band, with Ray Luzier unveiled as his official replacement in 2009. Founding member Fieldy left the band indefinitely in 2021 to get some "bad habits out of my system". Throughout their distinguished career Korn have released 13 studio albums, with next LP 'The Requiem' due out in 2022, and they have sold an estimated 40 million records globally, including 10 million copies of 1998's 'Follow the Leader.' One of the most enduring nu-metal bands, Korn are still an active and hugely influential band to this very day.
