Throughout October 2020 on Kerrang! Radio we’re celebrating Black Excellence by highlighting the achievements and contributions of the black community within the rock scene.

Over the next 31 days you’ll hear music from an array of pioneering musicians and artists including Jimi Hendrix, Thin Lizzy, Bad Brains, Living Colour, Lenny Kravitz, Skunk Anansie and Tom Morello.

Alongside seminal songs from established musicians, we’ll also feature music from breakthrough artists that are pushing boundaries and challenging stereotypes right now.

Together with the enhanced music content, we’ll be airing important and inspirational conversations with Skunk Anansie’s Skin, Fever 333's Jason Aalon Butler, Light the Torch’s Howard Jones, Sepultura’s Derrick Green and more.

Sophie K

Sophie K will be chatting to musicians about their journey, the highs and lows, and their experiences both in everyday life and within the music scene.

Jason Aalon Butler kicks things off on Wednesday 7th October at 9pm, followed by Skin (Wednesday 14th October @ 9pm) and Howard Jones (Wednesday 21st October @ 9pm).

Loz Guest

Loz Guest will be discussing BLM, social media and diversity within the rock scene with Kadeem from Loathe on Thursday 8th October at 3pm and Lahon from Sevendust on Wednesday 14th October at 3pm.

Johnny Doom:

Johnny Doom will be hosting two Black Excellence specials on Kerrang! Radio, starting with ‘Johnny Doom in conversation with Sepultura’s Derrick Green’ on Friday 9th October from 10pm. Johnny and Derrick chat about growing up as a young black artist in the hardcore and metal scene, the influence of black artists on rock music and will also discuss recent social unrest in America.

Johnny will also host a special show that celebrates the pioneering black artists of punk, rock, hardcore, metal, hip hop and extreme metal. He’ll also be looking at some of the breakthrough artists pushing boundaries right now. Tune in on Friday 23rd October from 10pm.

Elsewhere, Sevendust are our Guest Heads of Music on Friday 23rd October and they will be taking over our airwaves on the Hijack on Wednesday 28th October.
