Punk legend John Lydon was hit on the head by a glass bottle at a Public Image Ltd show in Chile on Sunday night (14th August).

The assailant launched the missile midway through the band’s set at Discotheque Blondie in Santiago leaving Lydon with a gaping wound and blood all over his shirt.

Ever the trooper, the 60-year-old fired verbal vitriol at the attacker calling him a “f***ing coward" before wrapping a towel around his head and proclaiming to the cheering crowd “We continue!”

You can see footage of the aftermath here:

Laughing off the incident afterwards, John shared photos on PiL’s Facebook page of himself grinning with a sizable plaster across his forehead.

He wrote: “Glass attack last night at Santiago, Club Blondie in Chile. No reflection on the rest of the crowd. Great gig. It lives. Anyone got any more pictures?”

One Facebook user apologised on behalf of the rest of the crowd, writing: “I'm from Chile and I was there and I am ashamed so much bottle on his head. The overall atmosphere was amazing the only thing wrong was this incident. PIL and Johnny Still Rules!”
