Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson To Cycle To Download Festival
He’s raising money for charity
Iron Maiden frontman and all-round hero Bruce Dickinson will cycle to Download Festival for the band’s headline set next month!
The 54-year-old has announced he’ll fly in from Germany – following Maiden’s two-night residency in Frankfurt – to join the final 25-mile leg of the Heavy Metal Truants’ charity bike ride to Download.
Organised by Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood and journalist Alexander Milas, the bike ride starts at Alexandra Palace in London on Wednesday 12th June and will see 40 riders cycle 165miles to Donington. The riders are raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, Childline and Nordoff Robbins.
Bruce commented: “Yes, maybe it’s the first time the headliner has shown up on a bike, but I do use my bike to get around in London! These are great causes, I am only sorry that due to our tour schedule l can’t do more of the ride, and hope our fans will support our efforts.
“I look forward to a day off after the ride seeing some great bands before we go into full Maiden action on the Saturday, with every intention of giving the fans a memorable show. Download and Metal fans are the best there are, so everyone expects something very special.”
Other charity riders include members of Young Guns, Paradise Lost, British Lion, Tesseract, Thunder and Trivium plus the Member of Parliament Rt. Hon Mike Weatherley.

Iron Maiden’s slot on Saturday 15th June will be their historic fifth headline performance at Donington Park.
Also performing across the weekend at Download are headliners Slipknot and Rammstein plus Queens of the Stone Age, Mastodon, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Bullet For My Valentine, Alice In Chains, Motorhead, The Gaslight Anthem, Enter Shikari, Limp Bizkit, Stone Sour and many more.
