Iggy Pop poses naked for life drawing class
The 21 paintings are set to go on display
Iggy Pop has posed nude for a life drawing class in New York.
The 68-year-old singer stripped off at the New York Academy of Art on Sunday 21st February at an event organised by Brooklyn Museum in collaboration with Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller.
Twenty-one artists aged between 19 and 80 and from a variety of background drew portraits of the punk legend with the resulting paintings going on display at the Brooklyn Museum.
Jeremy Deller said: “The life class is a special place in which to scrutinize the human form. As the bedrock of art education and art history, it is still the best way to understand the body.
“For me it makes perfect sense for Iggy Pop to be the subject of a life class; his body is central to an understanding of rock music and its place within American culture. His body has witnessed much and should be documented.”
Iggy added: “It was a great day for me. The students were wonderful people, and I so much enjoyed their company. There was a special bond between us that I will always remember. I had a good experience doing the life class. It was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.”
In other news, Iggy’s seventeenth studio album ‘Post Pop Depression’ produced by Josh Homme and featuring contributions from Dean Fertita and Matt Helders lands on 18th March.
He also plays a completely and utterly sold out show at the Royal Albert Hall in May.
