HMV To Accept Gift Cards From Tomorrow (22nd January)
Its administrator has announced
HMV will accept gift vouchers and cards from tomorrow, its administrators have announced.
The much-troubled retailer went into administration last Tuesday (15th January) and immediately told customers that they were unable to honour any vouchers – a move that infuriated many.
In a swift turnaround, accountancy firm Deloitte, which has taken control of HMV, said that from tomorrow morning (22nd January) customers will be able to redeem vouchers in the chain’s 223 stores.
Money raised from sales of charity releases, such as the Christmas chart-topping ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’, will also be “paid in full” as soon as possible.
Nick Edwards, joint administrator for HMV Group, HMV Music and Fopp, said: "I am pleased to confirm that, having concluded (an) assessment, we are able to honour gift cards.
"I can also confirm that all money raised by HMV for various charities will be paid in full.
“We recognise that both of these matters have caused concern for individuals and organisations affected and are pleased to have reached a positive outcome."
According to the BBC, restructuring specialist Hilco has emerged as the front running company bidding to save HMV.
Around 50 groups or individuals have expressed an interest in buying some part of the beleaguered high street chain.
