Deftones revealed the line-up for their second annual Dia De Los Deftones music festival this week and once again it was an eclectic melting pot of musical talent.

Taking place at San Diego’s Petco Park on Saturday 2nd November, the one-day event is headlined by Deftones themselves with Scottish electro-pop trio Chvrches appearing beneath them on the bill.

Also playing are French metal titans Gojira, rapper Jpegmafia, Illinois alt-rockers Hum, and electro-tinged punks Youth Code.

Although Hatebreed themselves aren’t even on the bill, frontman Jamey Jasta took to Twitter to hit out at Chvrches being higher on the bill than Gojira.

Pulling no punches, he wrote: “Who is churches with a v and why the f--- are they playing over Gojira get tha f--- outtta here have you ever heard The Heaviest Matter In The Universe you’re gonna get embarrassed off the stage lol no offense. God the music industry suckkkkks sometimes.”

Hours later he added: “Update: googled Churches w/ a v, they gotta be huge they did a song with a guy w/ a Marshmallow mask and people LOOOOOVE IT. Good for them.

“I’m sure (Chvrches are) lovely people and a popular group, I don’t agree with the line up order, same w/ other festivals, if anyone is butt hurt about my opinion wait til you hear the podcast! Metal needs to be shown more respect. Longer career, legacy, more albums, bill em higher.”

He continued: “While I’m at it, All That Remains played some small side stage at a fest this past weekend while bands with less hits and less albums who haven’t been around as long played mainstage, it’s not right.”

“Diverse lineups are great but whoever u are, if your agent power moves u above a crusher, good luck! I remember (band I wont name) somehow got to play after FFDP in AZ, it was a BAD lol. Hasn’t happened since.”

Hitting back at Jasta’s comments, Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry wrote: “Deftones curated the lineup so I don’t know how that speaks to problems with The Music Industry. I think it’s important and powerful that they promote the idea of a diverse community and try to bridge gaps instead of being guided by limiting, antiquated ideas about genre.”

She added: “I saw Gojira in Glasgow years ago and have seen Deftones three times so was excited when we got asked to be on the bill. Just because someone plays or listens to “pop music” doesn’t mean they don’t understand or appreciate other things.”

In a tweet of solidarity with Mayberry, Enter Shikari’s Rou Reynolds replied with a fist and a heart emoji.
