Green Day confirm new June 2025 show adding fuel to Download Festival rumours
Are they headlining Donington next year?
Green Day have announced a third European show of June 2025, which further fuels intense speculation that the trio are headlining Download Festival or Glastonbury next summer.
Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool announced last month they’re playing the German sister events Southside Festival and Hurricane Festival on the weekend of Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd June 2025 – two festivals that take place tantalisingly close to the Donington and Worthy Farm extravaganzas.
A couple of weeks later, Download Festival seemingly dropped a Green Day clue when they shared a photo on social media of the Apex Stage flanked by a huge green fireworks explosion.
Download captioned the image: “Summer is officially over. Wake us up when it’s June” – seemingly a play on Green Day's 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' song lyrics.
Green Day have today (4th October) been confirmed as the headliners of Norway’s Tons of Rock Festival on Thursday 26th June 2025 – a day before the main stage action at Glastonbury kicks off.
Also confirmed for the Oslo event are Electric Callboy, Emperor, Lorna Shore, Powerwolf, Alestorm, The Good, The Bad & The Zugly, JINJER, Kim Dracula and Old Man’s Child.

“Seeing next year’s lineup also take shape with incredible acts such as Powerwolf and Lorna Shore, exclusive concerts featuring national treasures like Emperor and Norway’s best and most vital band, The Good, The Bad & The Zugly, along with modern sensations like Electric Callboy and Kim Dracula, is just incredible.”

Download Festival usually reveals its headliners in early November, while Glastonbury announces its bill notoriously late in spring 2025.
