Green day have unveiled a powerful new video for their ‘Revolution Radio’ track ‘Troubled Times’.

The video opens with black and white phone footage of frontman Billie Joe Armstrong singing into the camera before his face is soon surrounded by hard-hitting footage of global turmoil, violence, tragedies and natural disasters.

Highly current, among the events depicted are the London jogger who pushed a woman in front of a bus, the Grenfell Tower disaster, white supremacists at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville and the North Korean crisis.

Elsewhere, there’s imagery of refugees on packed boats in the Mediterranean, bullfighting in Spain, drones launching missiles, various shots of war in the Middle East, homeless people slumped after using the drug Spice, environmental decay, melting glaciers and, of course, Green Day’s arch nemesis Donald Trump.

Watch the video below - warning it contains some violent imagery:

Back in January, Green Day shared a lyric video for ‘Troubled Times’ that featured a Trump-esque figure spouting hate in a Make America Great Again cap.

Reflecting upon the events in Charlottesville over the weekend, Billie Joe took to the band’s Facebook page to write his thoughts.

He wrote: “My heart feels heavy. I feel like what happened in Charlottesville goes beyond the point of anger. it makes me sad and desperate. shocked. I f---ing hate racism more than anything. music and social justice have always gone hand and hand with me. we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for "the time they are a changing" .. some people don't agree. the spirit of green day has always been about rising above oppression. and sticking up for what you believe in and singing it at the top of your lungs. we grew up fearing nuclear holocaust because of the cold war. those days are feeling way too relevant these days. these issues are our ugly past.. and now it's coming to haunt us. always resist these doomsday politicians. and in the words of our punk forefathers .. Nazi punks f--- off.”
