Green Day’s ‘Revolution Radio’ steamrolling its way to number one

It's way ahead of Alter Bridge's 'The Last Hero'

Green Day are on course to score their third UK number one album with ‘Revolution Radio’.

The band’s twelfth studio album sold 24,000 copies over the weekend – a 13,000 strong lead of second placed Alter Bridge with their latest record ‘The Last Hero’.

Billie Joe, Mike and Tré previously landed at the top spot with 2004's American Idiot and 2009's 21st Century Breakdown.

‘American Idiot’ is the band’s best selling album in the UK with 2.15million copies shifted, followed by 1994’s ‘Dookie’, which has sold just shy of 1million units.

Green Day headline British Summer Time Hyde Park in London on Saturday 1st July with a full supporting bill yet to be announced.

“London in the summer, us and tens of thousands of fans having the biggest party in one of the world's most legendary venues," says Billie Joe of the gig. "We have the best year to look forward to and this has just made it extra special.”
